Book
Shannon’s first book, In Other Words, Leadership, published by Penguin Random House & Steerforth Press in June 2023, tells the true story of a young mother who sent weekly handwritten letters of support to the governor of Maine, Janet Mills, for the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. The book combines the letters and excerpts from the governor’s personal journals in a compelling and uplifting chronicle of one of human history’s most fraught chapters. Historian and NYT best-selling author Heather Cox Richardson called it a “remarkable story of work, worry, art, faith, community, life, and hope. An instant classic.”

About Shannon
Shannon grew up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and is still based in New England, where she’s been telling stories in one form or another since childhood. She has an undergraduate degree in pre-veterinary medicine, having misinterpreted a love of James Herriot’s stories (among others) for an inclination toward animal husbandry. After a course correction she earned a Master’s Degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University and has worked for more than two decades as a freelance reporter for national shows on public radio. Shannon forayed into film production in 2009 and has since been accused of being a screenwriter masquerading as a producer. Her first book, In Other Words, Leadership, was published in June 2023. She is also co-host of the podcast Character, a playwright and an amateur poet.
